Doing our part for 2010 Easter egg hunt

After church on March 21, 2010, Garfield United Methodist Church parishioners filled plastic Easter eggs with candy -- a few eggs got quarters instead of candy! -- for the Garfield churches’ Easter Egg hunt. Each Garfield church filled 125 plastic eggs. The hunt took place on the day before Easter at Garfield Elementary School.

Pastor Peggy Ray earns License to Preach

Peggy Ray, Garfield United Methodist Church pastor, earned her License to Preach.

She traveled to Louisiana in early 2010 and successfully completed License to Preach School in partial fulfillment of Paragraph 315 of the 2008 Book of Discipline.

The School was conducted Jan 24-30 at the Wesley Center in Woodworth, La., by the Louisiana Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Issuing the license was the Louisiana Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.

Photos: Peggy shows her license at Garfield UMC on Sunday March 6, 2010. She preaches on that Sunday.

Note: During Peggy’s time in New Orleans, the New Orleans Saints defeated the Minnesota Vikings, 31-28, on Jan. 24, 2010, in the New Orleans Super Dome. (That National Football Conference championship game victory sent the Saints to the Super Bowl -- Feb. 7, 2010 -- which New Orleans won, 31-17, over the Indianapolis Colts.) Why mention this? It’s because there was intent interest about the Saints vs Vikings game by those teaching and those attending the School. Television sets were strategically placed at the Wesley Center so the game could be viewed. If Peggy wasn’t a New Orleans Saints fan before, she is now!
